I know three sets of parents who say their babies started long stretches of sleep between 6 to 8 weeks. By long stretches, I mean about 5 to 8 hours. My baby is 5 and a half weeks old, and the longest he has slept at night is 4.5 hours, usually it’s about 3 hours. When he wakes up, I change his diaper, feed him, and then rock him back to sleep. His pediatrician has just given the okay for him to sleep as long as he wants at night, within reason of course.
Now I’m curious: when your baby had their first long stretch of sleep, did they really sleep 5, 6, or even 7 hours straight without waking up? Or were you able to comfort them back to sleep quickly instead of going through the usual routine each time

Never even once. My baby is 8.5 months now
Thank you for sharing that. Ours doesn’t sleep for more than 2 hours, and even that seems like a stretch. I read so many posts about babies sleeping for 8 to 12 hours straight, and I really think people must be joking because it just doesn’t seem real

I have a miracle baby. He’s been sleeping 10 to 11 hours nonstop since week 3. Naps? Not so great, I’m lucky to get two 30-minute ones
I’d gladly take terrible naps for a good night’s sleep. Right now I’m managing only 3 hours of broken sleep each night, and it’s really taking a toll on me. It’s amazing how much better you feel when you actually get some rest
@Blaze
Not lying. My baby goes to sleep at 5:30 pm, then sleeps until about 11 pm, when I wake her for a feed and a diaper change. She goes back to sleep at 11:15 pm and stays asleep until 7:30 am. She usually takes two 30-minute naps during the day. Some people really do just have great sleepers
@Skyler
My baby naps on and off at daycare. She’s 4.5 months and sleeps from 6:30 pm to 5 am or 6 on weekends. No more waking up through the night. I think since she started rolling, she’s just more exhausted. Girl loves her sleep and food, just like her mom
@Blaze
Haha exactly why I asked this question. It’s hard to believe when my friend says her baby slept 8 hours straight at 6 weeks. I get the feeling that maybe people are saying they got long stretches but still had to comfort their baby without needing to feed or change them

Mine is 8.5 months too, and we’ve only seen 6 hours uninterrupted on rare occasions. I don’t know why, but it was amazing. On usual nights, he wakes up anywhere from every hour to every 3-4 hours
Yes, his sleep was actually uninterrupted. He started sleeping longer over time: 4 hours at 4 weeks, 5 at 5 weeks, 6 at 6 weeks, and so on, until he reached 12 hours by 12 weeks. He just turned 7 months old now. There were a few times he needed settling, but I mean maybe 3 nights in the last 6 months when he was feeling sick
@Blaise
This sounds just like my baby! She’s also 7 months old. She’s in the 99th percentile for weight and has always eaten a lot during the day, which I think helps
