What was the first food you fed your baby?

We just received approval from his pediatrician to begin solids, which is fantastic!! I’m curious what you guys started with! I’ve heard that you should start with vegetables before fruit because of the sugar, thus I’m thinking broccoli for my LO first lol.

I wouldn’t overthink the fruit-sugar situation. In my case, my LO barely kept anything in his mouth during the first few attempts. We did bananas first, then avocados. Six or seven items later, and he is only now beginning to consume them in small amounts.

Exactly the same for us :slightly_smiling_face:

We started with broccoli because it’s my favorite veggie, and I wanted to check if she enjoyed it as well.

Same here! We officially gave her a bone from a lamb chop to gnaw on earlier that day, but our first proper food was broccoli as well! Such a delightful vegetable.

How did your baby like it?

She adores broccoli, she is 14 months old and it remains one of her favorite foods.

She’d probably devour an entire head of broccoli if we gave it to her.

My son is also like this! He stands about 14 meters tall. He could also consume a shit ton of cooked/steamed spinach if I let him.

My daughter loves spinach muffins. I’ve had to make these twice this week. They’re essentially banana muffins, except you add around 1.5 cups of spinach to the wet ingredients.

We started with purée carrots

I had planned to start with a vegetable for the same reason, but we ended up with mashed bananas as our first food. He’s 8 months old and eats everything and loves vegetables! I’m not sure how much truth there is to the veggie vs fruit thing, and I wouldn’t fret over it!

Same. When I learned how sweet milk was, it seemed like a lost cause .

Same here! We also started with banana and my little guy eats absolutely everything we put in front of him, sweet or not. I’ve never heard any parent say they gave their kid a banana and they refused veggies forever. I think the risk of that is overstated if not a complete myth. What’s important is giving them a wide array of whole foods with a variety of flavors and textures, as well as getting iron and allergens in their diet early.

We started with bananas, too. I wanted him to establish pleasant associations with eating rather than starting with something he would dislike. He’s now 7 months old and has tried over 60 different things, including a variety of vegetables, and eats them all.

That’s excellent to know! My pediatrician informed me that babies who start with fruit tend to dislike vegetables.Hello there! I assist families with food introductions, and I would say that 90% of them begin with avocado.

That is wonderful to know!! My pediatrician informed me that babies who start with fruit often dislike vegetables :face_with_spiral_eyes:.

I seriously doubt it because each flavor is new and interesting to them. My boy still makes sour faces when he eats raspberries or other fruits, but he still likes them, however vegetables are his favorite
