I made my closest friend a basket full of everything I felt would be useful for me because I had a baby three months ago and she had just three weeks ago: pacifiers, Cliff bars, trail mix, lactation cookies, silver nursing cups, nipple shields, liquid IV, fuzzy socks, crazy yoga pants, and a doordash gift card.

Cooked food is also usually enjoyable. For the first few weeks, our families provided us with food on a regular basis; I never had to bother about cooking or grocery shopping, which was, to be honest, the biggest benefit of all (both physically and monetarily).

Hey, if you’re thinking about what to get for new parents, you can’t go wrong with gift cards. Amazon’s a hit because it’s super convenient for grabbing baby stuff or even a little something for the parents without stepping outside. And don’t forget about Walmart or food delivery vouchers they’re lifesavers. Oh, and if you whip up some meals that can go straight into the freezer, that’s a big win. It’s a real way to show you care.

Now, for the little one, you might want to pick up some books or that kick and play piano that all the babies seem to love. And you know what? Those practical items that might seem dull? They’re actually gold. The best presents are often the ones we’ve picked out ourselves on the baby registry it’s all the stuff we really need and want.

But here’s the scoop on what didn’t quite hit the mark:

Clothes for the baby? We’re practically swimming in them, and honestly, our little munchkin is almost always in pajamas. That said, if you find something unique that screams ‘us’ like those adorable Star Trek onesies we got because we’re big fans that’s pretty cool.

And diapers, well, turns out our baby’s picky and only likes one brand. So, stocking up on a mountain of different diapers wasn’t as helpful as everyone thought it would be.

Totally appreciate the thought of helping out with a diaper fund or snagging some gift cards. And hey, if you’re up for it, chipping in for a housekeeper to give us a day off from the chores would be amazing.

Just a heads-up though, we’ve got more blankets and tiny outfits than we know what to do with. It seems like that’s everyone’s go-to gift, so we’re all set on that front.
