Should I start with a bassinet or go straight to a crib?

I’m almost 34 weeks pregnant and not sure what to buy for our baby. We don’t have much money to spend, so we can’t get both options right now. I was thinking about getting a bedside sleeper, but then a friend offered to sell me their crib for about the same price as the bassinet. I’m wondering what other people started with. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Hi… Congratulations on your pregnancy! Both options have their pros and cons. A bedside sleeper can be convenient for nighttime feedings and comforting the baby without fully waking up.

On the other hand, a crib offers longevity as your baby grows, but it might mean more trips out of bed for nighttime care. Consider your lifestyle, space, and what feels right for you and your baby. If budget is a concern, maybe go for the option that offers the most flexibility for future use.

Using a bassinet attachment, we performed a pack-in play. We placed that in our room so the baby could easily be breastfed and would know where to find it when they traveled. We switched from the pack and play/ bassinets to a big kid bed because we are expecting a second child in a few months.

@Salvine We’ve also carried it out in this manner. We were able to free up money to purchase the Guava Lotus travel cot. Additionally, when the kids get accustomed to using the travel crib, it makes traveling a breeze.
