Neat trick to prevent unsolicited phone calls with newborn or baby

I’m so tired of scam callers or people constantly calling me trying to sell health insurance or other products. They STILL call even after I tell them to remove me from their list. I block their numbers and they just call from different ones. I recently had a baby, and it’s so frustrating when random callers ring and wake my baby up! So now, when I answer, I stay silent and just put the phone up to my screaming baby because he can get cranky when disrupted. He cries loudly when he’s hungry or cranky :joy: or screams during tummy time. Ever since I started this trick, I’ve gotten fewer spam calls. Thought I’d share in case anyone else faces the same issue!

One guy called, and as I held the baby next to my phone, he listened silently. After a minute, when my baby stopped crying, he asked, ‘Hello?’ He sounded mortified! But the moment he said hello, my baby started crying again, and the guy hung up!

Edit: Yes, I can put my phone on silent or vibrate, but I have important work calls, so I can’t always do that.

That’s actually awesome lol

Made me laugh!

I’ve done this! It’s a bit fun. I also play modem sounds from my computer to let them listen to that.

LOL I’ll have to try the random computer sounds :joy:

I know this is satisfying, but heads up: answering spam calls at all signals that it’s an active phone with a human on the line, which can make your number more valuable to them, potentially increasing calls. I don’t know if you can realistically differentiate work calls from spam, but if possible, try.

Could you put your phone on silent maybe?

Yeah, but I’m working and get important calls sometimes.

Maybe silent with vibrate? Try to keep it close to you.

OMG, I did this all the time on maternity leave with my first :joy::joy: They would hang up really quickly.

The health insurance marketplace calls are the worst. They did eventually stop for me after a few weeks, though.

There’s a setting in the phone app on iPhone to silence unknown callers. That’s what I do.

This has helped significantly: https://www.donotcall.gov. It’s run by the Federal Trade Commission. It may not stop all calls, but I haven’t received any sales calls since I signed up last month, while before I’d get multiple daily.
