Is orajel safe for babies?

I want to know if experienced parents recommend this. We’ve been giving infant Tylenol as needed. Our son is 6 months old and clearly getting his two front bottom teeth (adorable yet heartbreaking ).

Thanks!

As a concerned parent, I’ve done extensive research on Orajel and its safety for babies. Unfortunately, the overwhelming consensus is that Orajel, particularly its benzocaine-containing products, is not safe for infants and young children. The FDA has issued warnings about the risk of methemoglobinemia, a serious and potentially deadly condition, when benzocaine is used on babies under 24 months. Symptoms include pale or gray-blue skin, shortness of breath, rapid heart rate, and dizziness. In fact, the FDA has taken action against Orajel and other benzocaine-containing products, advising parents to avoid them altogether. Additionally, homeopathic teething gels and tablets are also off-limits due to the risk of toxic substances like belladonna. Instead, I’ve found that natural remedies like wet washcloths, chilled teething rings, and gentle gum massage are safer and more effective ways to soothe teething pain in babies. It’s crucial to consult with a pediatrician before using any teething products to ensure the best and safest approach for your child.

Hello there, Orajel is generally not recommended for babies under two years old due to potential risks, including methemoglobinemia.
