Is it normal for newborns to roll their eyes?

I should have stayed off Google because now I am nervous. I just wanted to know why my 1-week-old is rolling his eyes back, as I have seen him do it a lot today. Google says it could be epilepsy which scares me because my half-sister passed away from epilepsy, but it also says it might be because babies move their eyes as they practice motor control before falling asleep. Which one is it?

Yes, it’s normal for newborns to roll their eyes as their eye muscles and coordination are still developing. This behavior often resolves as their visual and motor skills mature. If you have concerns, consult a pediatrician for reassurance.

Yes it is normal for a new born to roll their eyes.

Hello Lucas, * Eye movements in newborns are common and often part of normal development.

  • Babies may roll their eyes as they develop motor skills.

Consult your pediatrician if you notice:

  • Consistent or prolonged eye rolling
  • Stiffening or jerking movements
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Changes in feeding or sleeping patterns
  • Lethargy or irritability

If these symptoms appear, contact your pediatrician immediately.

Yes, it’s quite normal for newborns to roll their eyes.

This just got me laughing so hard, but at myself.   as a new mom, I was so worried to see my daughter do this, it was so worrying to me that I could cry and call my Pediatrician even in the middle of the night. Right now, baby girl is a year old and her vision is just fine, I can’t believe I once thought she would go blind from doing that.
