Do shops simply forget to make newborn boy clothes?? In the midst of a sea of female apparel, there is a tiny little department for infant boys. Target, Old Navy—the list goes on. Perhaps it is because of where I live, but it is quite frustrating. Also, I’m over dinosaurs. Yes, dinosaurs are nice, but my infant does not require an unlimited supply of Dino clothing.
Boy clothing are horrible! It’s a sea of blue, navy, and grey, or garish dinosaur, tractor, or vehicle designs. I usually go for the “unisex” area, but then I have to deal with being a beige mama.
I was similarly annoyed by the dinosaur trend, but now that my son is two, he will gladly wear a dinosaur shirt, so whatever keeps him happy LOL. That being said, H&M has a lot of great gender neutral items, and the girls’ clothing may be worn either way.
Kate Quinn creates some fantastic patterns with lots of “boy” cutting, i.e. no ruffles, bows, or anything. It might be worth checking out!
I’ve particularly appreciated Carter’s fall apparel options for my youngster. Lots of adorable knitwear, bear ears, and non-truck prints.
Yes! Carters/Little Planet has tons of cute stuff without odd patterns!
I was just ranting about it. My local Old Navy has the tiniest area for newborn male items, but a huge section for baby girl things. Just because they are males does not mean we can’t dress them up cutely!
I wish there were more cute boy outfits than tee shirt-style onesies. Give me tiny sailor costumes! Bubbles! Small Peter Pan collar puff outfits!
I ended up buying some “girl” items for my son anyhow, like neutral florals and bumble bee footies. I’m a huge fan of dinosaurs, but I draw the line at trucks and cars.
I frequently shop in the girls’ area for my kid because else his wardrobe would be entirely blue and grey, but it’s frustrating because even when I find something allegedly “neutral” (like marine animals) there, they add a ruffle to the shoulder or a little frill on the sleeves to categorize it as feminine. Like, we want everyone to know your baby is a lady, therefore we made it less comfortable. I hope this helps.
I am dying at the prospect of my son wearing a sailor outfit.
Kohl’s has several cute items, at least at my store. I enjoy dinosaurs, so if I had a girl, she’d be in dinosaurs too lol! But I don’t get anything sports or car-related. I recently purchased a lovely overall with a bear face in the center, as well as a red striped shirt with a fox and leaf sticker in the upper right corner, which came with grey pants.
So far, all of my 5-month-old’s outfits have come either from the baby shower or from my cousin when her son was younger. He’s almost outgrown a number of stuff, especially now that fall is here. I only have maybe three sports stuff (one with baseball pinstripes that says “Daddy’s Rookie” and two Blackhawks onesies that my mother-in-law sent us), but we do have a few Dino items and alligator print things that my baby absolutely loves.
