Baby of the year contest is a scam

You’re sharing your baby’s information and images with strangers, and the whole situation is pretty questionable. The charitable aspect also appears questionable.

Many folks on my Facebook page appear to believe their baby is in the lead or a finalist.

Is anyone else getting terrible vibes from it?

Edit: Is it advertised on the excellent housekeeping website or Jessica Alba’s social media? Can somebody provide a link, if so?

I observed this about individuals I know, which is insane. How can there be so many “finalists”? I’ve never heard of it before either; obviously, I’m an FTM, but I’m on social media a lot, so I’d have seen this before.

I noticed it, clicked the application link, then closed out before finishing, and I STILL received an email stating that I am a finalist. They basically email it to everyone who applies.

Right hahaha, my boyfriend’s cousin’s daughter is apparently in second place, and I can’t believe it (not because she isn’t lovely, she is incredibly adorable; it’s just that her mom asked people to vote this morning).

Her “group” is most likely second, and who knows how many groups there are. Probably one billion.

Right? There must be a lot of babies in it.

It’s a scam. I hastily registered for it because we’re in a tough financial spot, but then I realized two things: 1. I don’t use social media, so I have no one to vote for my baby, and 2. I didn’t want my baby’s pictures and name online. When I first got the notification that we were “accepted,” it said he was ranked #49 in his “category.” A couple of hours later, when I decided to swap his photos for blackout images since there’s no way to delete the profile, it said he was ranked #32. I never shared or posted it anywhere, and there’s no public list of competitors that I can see, so how did his rank shoot up like that? I contacted customer service to have it deleted, and of course, I haven’t heard back.

This is exactly my case. I started signing up my kid and planned to do some research before deciding whether or not to finish her profile. Well, it appears to have been posted, and I am unable to delete it. So I merely turned her picture into a black screen. Ugh, so frustrating

Omg, so many girls on my feed, for some reason, believe their baby is a finalist and will win.

I entered my kid after seeing it on Jessica Alba’s page, thinking the winner would be chosen by a team of judges. When I saw you had to seek votes, I opted out. It may not appear malicious, but it is clearly an aggressive marketing campaign.

Same here, I thought it would be like the Gerber baby, which is selected but not voted for.

Same here! I also didn’t aware it automatically created a full profile; I didn’t even fill out the questions, so I assumed I wouldn’t be entered longer, but the profile with her images is still up, which makes me very uncomfortable. I called them and asked that it be removed.

Yeah, what the heck is this contest! This is the first year I’ve seen it.

I don’t believe it’s a scam, but it’s certainly not something I would undertake. It just feels nasty and like a pyramid scheme.

I know a mother who blurred her children’s faces on her profile picture yet entered her youngest boy in this contest lol. I don’t understand the mental gymnastics required to make one of those things acceptable while the other (less exploitative) item unacceptable. To be honest, I’m guessing gymnastics costs $25,000
