A Reminder for Parents on Leave: Naps Can Be Your Break Time

I have only two more months at home with her and she’s still contact napping, so I’m going to let my brain rot on this forum and TikTok for a bit while enjoying some cuddle time. Shoutout to you, person who posted this!

What are these naps you speak of? It seems my girl fights sleep :joy:

My baby doesn’t nap. So no breaks for me. I’m exhausted.

I’m so sorry. Hope you and baby find some rest soon!

I totally agree with this. I never feel guilty for relaxing or napping while she sleeps! I prefer to juggle chores while she’s awake so I can fully enjoy the peace while she naps :relieved::relieved:

Great advice, especially reminding us to do so without guilt! This time is super important to recharge and rest.

Totally! I used to get so stressed by the end of the day because I’d have maybe an hour to myself after she fell asleep, but guess what? That hour also had to include my shower. My baby was so clingy for the first 10 months, so I did what I could (like vacuuming while holding her, picking things up from the floor) while she was awake instead of doing it during nap time. I feel so much better these days; I have much less stress. The house is peaceful, partner is at work, I can eat, catch up online, and it’s really great for my mental health. Sometimes the cleaning takes a bit longer when they’re awake, but I remind myself that it’s not fair to expect a baby or toddler to just watch me clean. In the bathroom, I clean while she plays with everything from the cupboard. That’s perfectly fine to me. It takes just 2 minutes to put everything back. She’s happy and entertained while I get things done, and I also have time for myself. It’s a win-win.

Thanks! I’m on this forum right now beside my napping baby.

Totally agree. I used to use naps to get stuff done, but now I use them for myself. Sometimes that means being productive and sometimes that just means relaxing on the couch with a good book.
Now that my daughter crawls, she loves playing with the stuff while I unload the dishwasher or fold laundry or vacuum!

Contact napper here—just got him sleep trained, so naps are next, but one step at a time!

I work out during nap time or take a nap myself. I really enjoy it. Sometimes I’m productive, but 99% of the time I’m also taking a much-needed break.

My husband loves working out during nap time breaks. Personally, I prefer catching up on drag race :relieved:

@Mackenzie
That is honestly a great way to spend your time!

I’m really thankful I figured this out before the baby came and warned my husband. I held my baby for like 90% of her naps until maybe 12 months.

I’ve been thinking this since my baby turned 4 months. He naps 3-4 times, only 30 minutes each time. I try not to feel bad if I don’t get a chore done and just sit on the couch near him and do nothing. That really is my only break!

A good rule I follow is: don’t do anything you could do while they’re awake

Emotional support Oreos :joy:

Lol obviously. How else would we get anything done?

And if you do absolutely nothing all day, that’s okay too.

It’s interesting how even nature built in breaks.
