When your baby sleeps in while you don't

My baby is a great sleeper, and I absolutely love her. She’s so good to me. However, for the past week, she’s been waking up at 4:30 am. Since I breastfeed, I also wake up at 4:30 am with engorgement. I can’t go back to sleep because I’m waiting for her to wake up again, and my breasts hurt. So, by 7 am, I give up lying in bed and end up pumping and watching TV downstairs.

Can anyone relate?

A true blessing, but so painful . Missing 5 hours of sleep is tough, but hopefully, he continues that tomorrow.

Yes, we are in the same boat. She used to wake up around 5 a.m., but now she usually sleeps until 7 or 7:30 a.m. But my boobs still need to be up by 5:30 a.m. or they would bleed everywhere. Also, the dog learnt to wake up early. So now my dog and I wake up early to feed her and pump. It is good to have two full hours to myself, though.

I’d put her back to sleep after she ate, and she’d sleep until 8, giving me about two hours to myself. So maybe I’ll start waking up earlier to pump and work on EBF (she takes formula at night since I don’t pump a whole bottle).

That was our progression too. I can usually pump enough in the morning to get two bottles, one for when she wakes up and another for her dream feed around 11 pm.

I’m actually enjoying having some time in the morning to savor my coffee and breakfast. However, I should probably start adjusting my schedule so I can get a bit more sleep.

Yes, most nights I’m waiting to fall asleep, only to anticipate my baby waking up just as I do. I’ve been awake since 3 this morning, and it’s now 7:30. I think I drifted off for maybe 30 minutes total during that time. It’s torture. My baby is not a good sleeper and wakes every 2-3 hours. I guess it’s just hard to sleep when you’re on demand all the time.

Your last sentence is really true :sob:

Nothing like waking up hours before the rest of the house because your body won’t let you sleep.

It is now typical waking hours, and I have a headache .

100%. That’s one of the most unpleasant features of breastfeeding, along with clogged ducts, vasoconstriction, thrush, and mastitis!

Fortunately, the worst I’ve had is a milk bleb, but it’s been almost three weeks and I still have the bleb.

You can always manually pump off a small amount! I keep one by my nightstand in case I get harmed overnight. My LO slept practically the entire night for the first time, and I was unsure whether to pump or wait.
