What Weird Phrase Calms Your Baby?

As my little one approaches two months, we’ve been facing some challenges during feeding. However, I’ve discovered that this odd phrase calms him down when he’s breastfeeding: “You got it, you got it.” I’ve tried various things—shushing, saying “mommy’s here,” singing, and readjusting—but nothing works like telling him, “You got it, you got that boob, you got it” when he starts to wiggle in frustration. It immediately calms him and encourages intense suckling.

“Davy Jones locker” said in the worst Trinidadian accent. Always gets a smile.

I’m a bilingual mom, and my baby loves when I sing-say, “Monsieur Hibou-ou-ou va hou hou hou”—which means “Mr. Owl goes hoo hoo hoo” haha.

Whenever I say “coffee” in a thick New York accent, it results in an immediate giggle fest.

I jokingly say to my 2-month-old, “What’s the trouble Miss Baby? Would you like to speak to the manager?” when she fusses.

“You’re working it out” works wonders when I’m trying to burp or help with gas! He consistently smiles and often lets out a big fart afterward.
