What knowledge did you lose from your brain when you had your baby?

Title says it all: after your baby was born, what information was purged from your brain because of lack of sleep / deluge of new information?

My second was born a couple months ago and since then I have been unable to spell the word “grateful.” I spell it “greatful” first every single time (including just now).

After my first was born a few years ago, I famously forgot the word “samosa” and said “let’s get some… Indian fried triangles.”

Best me to it. It’s honestly true and so frustrating though lol.

Anything and everything is now “that thingy over there.” My husband has gotten very good at deciphering which thingy is the specific thingy I am talking about.

This comment was eye-opening! Before babies, I don’t remember fighting with my husband about how he has no idea what I mean when I say “that,” “the ummm… you know,” or “that thingy.” I know I have bad mom brain but it never occurred to me this was part of it. Oh I can’t wait to tell him in the morning, hopefully he’ll lay off me knowing it’s the kids’ fault.

Oh my goodness, this was me! My hubby used to get so frustrated, ‘what thing?!?!’ Mushy baby brain :joy:.

Before: I was known for being especially articulate. Now: Sometimes I can’t make my words do the things. You know the thing with the words, when you pick the right one? That thing? And when I’m talking I get halfway through a thought and just.

@Edward
This was incredibly relatable.

@Edward
This was me before kids, verbally. It’s just gotten so much worse :cry:.

@Edward
Same… my career is in trouble if this keeps up.

I feel so seen. I’ve always been very quick-witted and could think and speak at the same speed. Now I feel like my brain is so slow - I’m ready to talk but … it’s like I’m walking through water or something. I have such a hard time getting thoughts into sentences. It’s driving me crazy!! I think part of it is I’m not in situations where I need to speak as often as I used to - plus Covid isolated me more. So my brain is “out of practice” - I’ve noticed some differences when I’ve had time to talk with someone but it’s honestly a crapshoot day to day.

My vocabulary! When I’m talking now I struggle to think of the words I’m looking for.

Omg same except after I started to get sleep, my vocab was still bad and it’s been two years lol. Then I just had my second LO and I’m for sure worst lol writing this was a lowkey struggle lol.

@Ainsley
I feel like I read somewhere that it can take women up to seven years to return to previous cognitive (and other) function after having a baby, and I believe it lol.

This is so me! My guy is almost 10 months old and I’m slowly starting to get it together again lol.

Literally I feel like the dumbest human being because I can’t remember how to speak.

My wit. Me now big dumb.

Names of acquaintances or coworkers I didn’t know well. I used to know their names at least lol.

Same!! I had a catch-up with my manager this week and had to just keep asking, ‘So, how is the team?’ :joy:.
