What different songs are you singing to your baby instead of the usual lullabies?

Not much into the whole “rock a bye baby” or “twinkle twinkle little star” scene. Instead, I’ve been crooning “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash and “Poem on the Underground Wall” by Simon and Garfunkel.

What tunes are you belting out? I’m on the lookout for some fresh additions to my baby playlist!

Hi Donna
Apart from traditional lullabies, you can sing a variety of songs to your baby to engage them and introduce them to different rhythms and melodies. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Folk Songs: Songs like “You Are My Sunshine” or “This Little Light of Mine” have simple melodies and are enjoyable for babies.
  2. Children’s Songs: Nursery rhymes like “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” or “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” are classic choices.
  3. Pop Songs: Many pop songs have catchy tunes that can be adapted for singing to babies. Just choose ones with appropriate lyrics.

Singing to your baby is a wonderful way to bond and soothe them, and you don’t have to stick to traditional lullabies. Here are some different songs you can sing to your baby:

  1. Classical Music: Babies often enjoy the soothing melodies of classical music. You can sing or play instrumental pieces by composers like Mozart, Bach, or Beethoven.
  2. Folk Songs: Many folk songs have simple melodies and repetitive lyrics that are perfect for singing to babies. Songs like “You Are My Sunshine,” “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” and “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” are classics that babies love.
  3. Children’s Songs: There are countless children’s songs that are fun and catchy for babies. Sing favorites like “The Wheels on the Bus,” “Old MacDonald Had a Farm,” or “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”
  4. Pop Songs: Don’t be afraid to sing your favorite pop songs to your baby! Choose songs with simple melodies and positive lyrics that you can adapt for your little one.
  5. Disney Songs: Disney songs are beloved by people of all ages, including babies. Sing classics like “A Whole New World” from Aladdin, “Let It Go” from Frozen, or “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid.
  6. Nature Sounds: If you’re not in the mood to sing, you can hum or softly sing songs that mimic nature sounds, such as birds chirping, gentle breezes, or flowing water. These natural sounds can be very soothing for babies.
  7. Personalized Songs: Make up your own songs to sing to your baby! You can sing about your daily routine, your baby’s favorite activities, or anything else that comes to mind. Your baby will love hearing the sound of your voice and the personalized touch of a song made just for them.

Remember, it’s not just about the song itself but the warmth and love you convey while singing to your baby. Experiment with different songs and see which ones your baby responds to best. The most important thing is to enjoy the special bonding time with your little one through music.
