What age did you start swim lessons for your baby?

Newborns are welcome to enroll in the small group swim program offered by this location. Their scope of practice is very limited, and they claim not to submerge a newborn until six months of age.

Has anyone done this with a baby that was still quite tiny? She is only seven weeks old, so I think it would be wonderful to just go outside and do stuff. Sitting around the house all day is extremely boring.

Besides the risk of the temperature being too low, our child’s doctor advised us to wait until the baby is 6 months old before taking them to the pool because the chlorine can cause skin irritation. Additionally, public pools contain many pollutants that can be especially risky for babies younger than 8 weeks old.

I haven’t begun yet as she’s only 2 months old, but I intend to start when she’s 5 or 6 months old so we can both enjoy the water during the summers!

My oldest child started swimming lessons after two months, and my younger child started after three months. (The waiting period occurred when the course was halfway through.)

I believe my younger child had an excellent instructor. I would happily enrol both of them in her classes. She also helps to build our confidence!

Both of my children love being in the water. In fact, my younger child was so relaxed in the water that he would almost drift off to sleep!
