Hi everyone, looking for community input. My three-month-old has made a wide range of cute noises; occasionally, she gets quite chatty and starts making noises, but most of the time, she stays silent. For instance, there was absolutely no “chatting” today save from tears. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this typical? Although my family speaks two languages, I don’t think it matters at this early stage.
Babies may resist being held or swaddled for many reasons, including:
- It’s just part of their personality. Some babies don’t enjoy physical affection as much as others and prefer different ways of bonding with you.
- They have colic.

3 month olds are busy explorers, not cuddle bugs yet! Quiet is normal, chatting comes later. Two languages are great for their brain. Look for smiles, eye contact, and changing babbles—those are signs of communication on the way. Don’t worry about cuddles or long chats yet, they’ll come!
