Sticking tongue out

Our little one has a habit of protruding her tongue like a small reptile. Is this typical? :joy: What other babies do these things? LOL

My little guy used to stick his tongue out all the time, like a tiny little raspberry machine. It can be pretty funny, right? I can guarantee tons of babies do this. There’s a couple reasons they might do it. Sometimes it’s just how they explore the world around them, like using their mouths to feel things. Other times, it could be a feeding reflex or just a funny habit they pick up. If you’re ever worried, of course, talk to your pediatrician. But in most cases, it’s just a normal baby thing and nothing to stress over.

Sticking out the tongue is a natural reflex that babies are born with and often do when concentrating or learning new skills. As we get older, sticking out the tongue can become a voluntary gesture used for various social and communicative purposes. It may express playfulness, silliness, or mocking. In some cultures, sticking out the tongue is considered rude or disrespectful. Scientifically, the tongue is a muscular organ that helps with speech, swallowing, and taste. Sticking it out briefly is harmless, but prolonged tongue protrusion can be a sign of certain medical conditions. Overall, while a simple action, sticking out the tongue has complex neurological underpinnings and can convey a range of meanings depending on the social context and culture. As with any nonverbal communication, it’s important to be aware of how this gesture may be perceived by others.
