No one warned me that my child would finish learning to roll onto his belly (he had already mastered the other way) overnight. Dad innocently placed baby next to me in the bed as he always does every morning when he wakes up to go to work. Tell me why this baby tried to yeet himself off the bed almost immediately? Well if I wasn’t awake, I’m awake now! I had to calm him down because I think me yelling with alarm startled him. I’m proud of his new milestone, but I wish it had come with more warning
Movement milestones always happen at the weirdest, most inconvenient times. Mine learned to roll one day when I set her on the couch next to me—luckily I kept my leg between her and the edge but holy cow, that was a wake-up call! She no longer gets to be on couches/beds unless we’re like intentionally playing there lol.
@Flint
I seriously thought he was just going to skip it because he has a gtube and hates tummy time. Now I have to hold him until he falls asleep and put him in his crib because he got too used to napping in our bed to the point when I put him in his crib awake he will immediately start whining.
@Maddox
Yeah, it’s so tough when things change!
@Flint
Yep. Mine learned to crawl the second my nervous wreck of a dog turned his back on her. That was a hell of a day. She’s 19 months old now and still looking at that tail with want in her eyes. She’s had a taste of the fluffiness and now she wants more.
@Noor
Haha what is it about animal tails that appeals to babies??
lol our baby was in the crib when this happened and it was about 2 am. I ran across the house in my underwear to make sure she was breathing

He already knows how to roll back so I’m not worried about that lol in fact he hates tummy time so much, I’m surprised he had learned this so quickly. He was an expert at getting out of tummy time. I could block his ability to roll, and he would shimmy down and then twist until he was on his back. he actually practiced in his crib first. I wasn’t sure what he was doing but when I showed his physical therapist she said he was trying to roll to his belly. So I guess I should have known it was coming.
Also thank you for not giving unsolicited advice
@Maddox
“thank you for not giving unsolicited advice” is so real like yeah I didn’t plan on letting my son continue to throw himself off of things but thanks for keeping me in check guys.

I learned that baby mattresses are really breathable.
@Remy
Yes and I even knew the one we have (newton) is breathable but still panicked lol.
Baby goes on the floor now unless you’re holding baby to avoid falls from height. Ie the couch/bed/changing table.
Yup. Wife got up, little homie rolled the opposite way away from me. Woke up to a thump and crying, and him laying flat on his back on a giant pillow. Not a single scratch. Now he’s 10.5 months, walking/crawling and climbing where he’s not supposed to. Taught him how to get off couches and places on his belly so at least he’s doing that. When he doesn’t wanna be help, he wants to make chaos. We let him be “feral” … Get ready.
@Shannon
I’m already baby-proofing lol.
Yeah, I would take that as a sign to stop having the baby on the bed with you unless you’re actively holding him or playing with him.
Start teaching baby to get off the bed safely! My son started walking at 10 months and climbing shortly after. He’s almost 14 months and he knows how to safely get down from both.
How old is your baby?
Honestly, everybody warned me of that
Your baby shouldn’t be in the bed with you while you’re sleeping… At any age. This is pretty basic stuff.
