Is it unsafe to buy a used Doona? (Also tips on moving 3 times in baby’s first 6 months)

Hi there. In October, we plan to give birth. But throughout the first six months of the baby’s life, we move three times. We will give birth In NYC (in months 0–2), spend a few weeks with my in-laws, and then return Chicago to settle into our new home.

We thought that with all the travelling, we should get a Doona. However, I would also like to spend less money on a replacement. In my area, there was a nice used one being sold. But my partner is a little concerned that if the used car seat has been in an accident or whatever, it will not be safe to purchase. Is this a legitimate worry? Do we just need to buy a new car seats?

I would also be grateful for any advice about moving around a lot with a newborn. Our current plan is to rent a bassinet in Chicago, pick up items for 0–3 months, then discard the old items (little bouncer outfits) and purchase new items.

It hasn’t been in an accident, but unless you know the owner, I wouldn’t advise purchasing it used.

That being said, I believe the price is entirely justified. Our Doona is very adorable. With the Amazon registration, we were able to get 15% off, but I’m not sure whether that’s still feasible because I believe they’ve changed their policies.

The decision is yours but weigh the safety considerations against the potential cost savings before buying a used Doona.

Never put your child in a used infant car seat unless you know its history. A seat may be damaged or have been in a severe crash and have damage that is difficult to see.
