I tested positive, worried about son

I have COVID, he’s 7 weeks old. Anyone get COVID and their baby was fine? I’m exclusively pumping, so he hasn’t been near my face all that much, except when burping. I’ve kissed behind his ear too. I’m scared he’s going to get sick :cry:.

Husband had COVID when LO was ~8 weeks, I never developed symptoms and neither did baby. I looked into it some and found this article: Here's Why Infants Are Strangely Resistant to COVID | Scientific American. Seems like the theory is that the way COVID attacks is by using the immune system against itself, so a baby without a developed immune system is actually safer? I still wouldn’t (and didn’t) skimp on precautions, but hopefully that gives some peace of mind about baby’s safety!

@Noah
That’s actually really interesting and kind of makes sense lol. Definitely feeling better after reading all the comments!

My baby had COVID! It was like nothing to him; they don’t get it nearly as bad as adults.

Yes, husband and I both had COVID when baby was about 8 weeks old. I continued to breastfeed, always wore a mask when holding and feeding her. We believe she never contracted COVID, though can’t be sure since we never tested. She certainly didn’t have any symptoms. This was back in 2021 and I imagine the virus is more attenuated now. You’re both going to be fine! Hang in there!!

@Pippin
My son and daughter got COVID when I got COVID and I was and still the primary caretaker.

@Pippin
That makes me feel better!

We all got COVID a few days after our baby was born. Both adults were sick although I wasn’t sick for very long, and our preschooler was slightly sick. The baby had zero symptoms. I am also pumping and I figured it probably helped her. I was vaccinated about 3 weeks before she was born, so she was probably protected because of the vaccine too.

Ugh, my husband brought it home when my baby was about 10 weeks old. I left to my parents in hopes we wouldn’t get it, but we got it! She saw her doctor and thankfully COVID doesn’t attack babies the way it does us. She had a fever and cough for about a week. The doctor had us give her baby Tylenol and we also made sure she never became dehydrated. It sucked though, honestly, because taking care of a baby while YOU’RE sick too is terrible. Seeing her sick while she was so tiny broke my heart, but it doesn’t last long! Just give LO extra snuggles and extra care if they do happen to get it. Hoping they do not! :crossed_fingers:t3:

Yes, my husband and I both got COVID when our baby was 6 weeks old. I continued to breastfeed and just wore a mask. He did get COVID though and had a fever and a runny nose, but nothing serious and all was fine in the end. :smiling_face: Tylenol, Vick’s humidifier, and saline wash have always helped when he gets a slight cold.

We had COVID when our baby was 3 months. He did test positive for COVID but had very mild symptoms. Mild fever, some mucus, that’s about it.

I’ve been sick twice since having my son (12 weeks) and just had pinkeye. The first time I got sick I think he was about 5 weeks. I made sure not to put my face in his face and was meticulous about washing my hands a boatload. He never got any of it!

ER nurse here that worked during the COVID pandemic. From my experience, children rarely got seriously ill from COVID. In fact, I can’t think of any pediatric patient that was admitted to the hospital for COVID. Our family recently got COVID and our son had a minor runny nose and cough and that was about it.

Me, my husband, 2-year-old, and 3-week-old all had it last January! It was fine. Kiddos recovered much faster than us.

Our family came down with COVID when our baby was ~7 weeks. My husband had cold-like symptoms, I had it much worse (high fever, aches, difficulty breathing, etc), but our baby - despite testing positive - had not a single symptom.

I had COVID while giving birth. Doctors initially said no need to do anything different, then the next day told me to wear a mask while I held and fed the baby; she was fine, did not have any symptoms.

Me and her dad both caught it when she was around 8-10 weeks. I was exclusively breastfeeding so couldn’t separate, but she never showed any symptoms and was fine!

A nurse told me COVID doesn’t affect kids/babies too much. I had it when my baby was about 6 months maybe? And she was completely fine. I was not lol.

My baby got COVID, at around 4.5 months. He didn’t feel so rosy, but there was never any danger of serious illness. We took him to the hospital, where he tested positive. The doctor told us that babies are generally resilient towards it and it’ll be like a cold. Which it was.
