Edit: I always regret venting on this damn website lol. So first of all, I’m not “complaining” my baby sleeps 11 hours. I’m confused as to why they keep waking up earlier and earlier. What’s next? 4? 3? When are they gonna stop lol??? Yes, I’ve tried putting them to sleep later, still wakes up early as hell.
My fiancé works horrible hours so I’m alone with our child literally when they wake up to the time they go to sleep most of the time. Every feeding, every bath every poopy diaper, I get them up every day and put them to bed every night. It absolutely is exhausting no matter how much sleep I get! Not to mention I have night terrors and back pain and body aches that wake me up throughout the night and my new antidepressants which make me sleepy as hell. But excuse me, I forgot since there’s always someone who’s going to have it worse I can’t be having a hard time!
The solidarity made me feel great though. I’m just glad it’s a normal thing for my child to keep waking up earlier and it seems it’ll go back to normal eventually so thank you to everyone who wasn’t a bitter twat. I hope everyone has the day they deserve.
OG post: My baby used to sleep from 8-8 and it was wonderful.
Then they started waking at 7, whatever I can deal with 8-7.
Then they started waking at 6. It was an adjustment but after trying to put them to bed later, giving them more naps and then giving them fewer naps with nothing working, we changed their bedtime to 6-6. Fine, I’m finally used to it.
NOW THEY KEEP WAKING UP AT 5. What am I doing wrong???
5-5 here! I don’t know how, but my 7-7 baby started waking up at 6 and then at 5. Baby hit 8-month sleep regression on the week we turned clocks from summer to winter time (It was 7-7, after the clock turned it was 6-6 and now 5-5). In the process, she dropped from 3 naps to 2, but it didn’t help with early wakings.
It’s summer here in Australia and my kid wakes up when the sun rises, which is usually around the 5:30 AM - 6 AM mark
There was a period of time she was waking up at 4 AM, bright and happy, and I still have no idea why. This lasted a few days and then she went back to waking up at 6 AM. I read that when babies learn a new skill, it can disrupt their sleep? But that week of waking up at 4 AM… she didn’t learn anything new .

You don’t know that lol, that’s little boss-baby’s secret what tricks they are perfecting when the lights go down.
That makes sense.
No matter how tired and ready for bed mine looks, she’s always gonna be busy in her crib for almost an hour before falling asleep, talking, yelling, rolling, and jumping around.
Must be planning world domination with the new skills she learned.
I’m glad whenever mine sleeps past 5. Past 5:30? Sweet! Until 6? An absolute dream. We’re mostly around 8-5 around here. I’ve learned to enjoy watching the sunrise as we both wake up together.

I’m reading all the replies and thinking “my baby is the only baby with a 10 PM bedtime?” We go to sleep together! He wakes up closer to sunrise to have a bottle but then sleeps right after… BUT THAT’S A NEW THING!!! He used to sleep all night, straight but now he wakes up for a bottle. I hope your baby gets back on a schedule that you’d like them to be on.
@Rowan
Yeah, we keep ours up until 8-9 PM (especially if he is home the next day with us). He is usually up between 7:30-8:30. I keep him up late for me.
@Rowan
My toddler has always slept 10:30ish to 7:30. Any time we mess with it, he would be up and down all night, or wake up at 4 AM. Sucks to not have any alone time, but on the flip side, I have a kid that never gets overtired and fussy I guess. He’s just always been low sleep needs.
We went through a few weeks of starting the day at 4:30. It was torture. We’re back to between 6 and 7 now (thank all of the gods and everything holy).
I feel you. Each new developmental milestone comes with pros and cons.
I also hate waking up so dang early. But babies’ circadian rhythm kind of settles into a wake time between 5:30 and 6:30 A.M. by the time they reach toddlerhood. Kids don’t tend to start sleeping in until they hit puberty.
Just 2 days ago, our toddler was wide awake at 3:30/4 A.M. and my husband and I were DRAGGING all day from the sleep deprivation it caused. This morning, my husband goes, “I hope that NEVER happens again!” Oh dear sweet love… it WILL happen again. Especially when she starts potty training! I told him, “Just wait until she learns doors, comes into our room, and climbs into bed with us, only to pee in our bed at 4 A.M.!” The look on his face…
