How does your baby fall asleep?

At 7.5 months, we’re still either rocking or feeding our baby to sleep, depending on how bedtime goes. The idea of putting him down “drowsy but awake” feels completely out of reach for us.

I’m genuinely curious, how do other babies manage to fall asleep on their own?

We haven’t had success with drowsy but awake since the days of newborn swaddling.

The technique to the transfer is to place the baby’s head on your shoulder, one hand behind the head and the other behind the buttocks.

Slowly lower the baby onto the mattress, first with the feet, then the buttocks, shoulders, and finally your hand under the baby’s head.

Place one hand lightly on their belly and slowly slide the other hand out from behind their head.

Sometimes I do a whole minute of hand on belly.

Panicked a little. Then, sneak out of the room.

“Panic a little bit” finished me off! The stress is genuine!

“Panic a little bit. Then sneak out of the room” - i think this applies to every technique :joy:

I wish it worked! My 6-month-old son’s eyes just open and he starts crying uncontrollably until he is held again.

Are you feeding to fall asleep? Rocking to sleep? How long do you have to wait to transfer?

I need to make sure chick is actually out. Sometimes it’s only 5 minutes, but it’s usually 15-20 minutes.

I hope things become easier! We are currently experiencing a sleep regression, with him waking up every 45 minutes.

We typically feed and rock to sleep. We really wait it out, but the moment his head reaches that surface, his eyes are wide open again lol.

My kid is 14 months old, and I still hold her until she is entirely asleep.

She drinks some milk, and we wash her teeth and change her diaper downstairs before heading to her room.

In her room, we read a few books, listen to soft music, and she falls asleep in my arms before I transfer her to her crib.

Even after 13 months, our routine remains the same. A cuddly bear has done wonders for her comfort during the transfer! I’m not sure about you, but I used to be concerned about her inability to settle herself, but as she grew older, it became simpler to put her to bed. She seems to have anticipated what would happen and now falls asleep swiftly. Surprisingly, I don’t find it worrisome.

And how do you transfer? Saddly, our guy continues waking up during the transfer!

Very gently and carefully, hehe

It became simpler when she was a year old and began sleeping with her stuffed bunny; now, if she wakes up briefly when I shift her, I give her the bunny and she falls asleep with it.

When I encountered this problem after the newborn phase, it was typically because my baby wasn’t exhausted enough to sleep through the transition. Around 8 months, she suddenly needed more awake time/longer wake windows, as well as a later bedtime. Based on my own experience, you could try gently pushing back bedtime by 20-30 minutes. Or ensuring that the last snooze ends a bit earlier?

Mine is almost eight months old now. Until recently, I would hold him in my arms and rock, sing, or breastfeed him until he fell asleep until about two weeks ago, when he decided the only way to fall asleep was to grab some of my hair and cram it in his mouth with his thumb to suck on. I think this is a little strange. Nobody else can put him to sleep now.

I’m sorry but I am dying of laughter :joy: :joy:

Understandable  so in this case i assume not all babies do it

Mine is only 6.5 months, but this might happen to her.

When you go to rock or feed him before his nap, place a little blanket or pillowcase on him. That way, he has something to cuddle and suckle on! I tried this when my daughter wanted to use my shirt lol.
