I took my baby to a doctor’s appointment and I was using the car seat that usually stays in my husband’s car. For some reason, I just couldn’t get it off the base, so I ended up saying forget it and dragged the whole thing inside, haha. It was really heavy, but we made it to our destination
Well, you could just take the baby out next time

She’s only 6 weeks old. I wouldn’t have had anywhere safe to put her during my appointment

Got it! I thought it was your little one’s appointment.
@Shay
Oh, my fault for not clarifying that.

Couldn’t you just hold her? I managed to hold my baby during everything from dental visits to physical therapy!
@Frost
I don’t think that would have worked. Carrying the base inside wasn’t much harder than just bringing in the car seat, haha. I just felt silly

You’re not silly. It’s heavy—you’re strong!
Once, I forgot how to detach my car seat from the stroller, even after using it regularly! I stood there for a minute, confused. I walked around the car, put my bag away, and then tried again, realizing there were different release buttons for getting it out of the car and the stroller. I never connected the dots before.
@Frost
This was me too. I didn’t think of any alternative, haha. My baby cried whenever I set him down.

Have you thought about using a carrier like an ErgoBaby or wraps? That’s usually a good choice for carrying her
@Clarke
The original poster probably didn’t have that with her or she would have used it. This was a spur-of-the-moment issue.
@Clarke
I didn’t bring my wrap with me! We were already at the doctor’s office when I couldn’t detach the car seat from the base.

Maybe next time keep a wrap carrier in the car? It’s always handy and much lighter than a car seat.
@Clarke
I’m not sure why this got downvoted. The moment was tough and there’s no criticism intended with this suggestion for next time. You might find a cheap or even free wrap in local buy-nothing or moms groups to keep in your car. If you have another carrier you don’t use much, storing that could help too. I have a structured carrier I replaced because it wasn’t a good fit, but I keep it in my car as a backup. You never know when a stroller or car seat won’t work, like when it rains unexpectedly, or you’re in a crowded store, or in a tight parking spot.
@Cade
Thanks for supporting my point. I didn’t mean the suggestion in a negative way; I understand how tough it can be.
@Cade
This sub has some interesting quirks.
Oh man. At my 6-week post-partum appointment, I managed to get the car seat off the base but could not figure out how to unfold the stroller that clicked into it. I had to ask for help.

I watched YouTube videos in the parking lot to learn how to unfold my stroller.

I had similar challenges. Plus, I struggled to lift the stroller in and out of my car.

I practiced unfolding ours way more than I needed to before my son was born. The latch sometimes stuck if I pulled up on the car seat before fully disengaging it.
