I feel a bit guilty about this but I keep wanting to call my 7-week-old daughter by our lady dog’s name. I catch myself just in time and say the correct name, but I know that wasn’t the first one that popped into my head. And if that wasn’t enough, I almost called my dog by our daughter’s name.

No, but I have called my son ‘good girl’ before. Super awkward but the dog loved it
Oh we are terrible with this, we call the bassinet the crate, my husband says ‘what a good girl’ when the baby follows a command, and I found myself saying ‘good quiet’ when the baby stopped crying. We have been co-dog parents for 11 years, so it just comes out naturally
I stayed with my parents who have a dog over Christmas and you would not believe how many times I called my son by the dog’s name and vice versa. I was really shocked that I did that when it wasn’t even my dog
My mom called me by my siblings’ names all the time. She’d correct herself, but sometimes she’d call out a different sibling’s name instead. One time, I decided to beat her to it and tell her my name myself.
‘Mom, I’m Dingo!’
Imagine my surprise when I told her this story 20 years later and found out this was not the only time I called myself by the dog’s name
My kid thinks they are a pet now. Both on the floor, looking up at me, chasing toys, begging for food and both answering to the pet’s name. I’ve started to lean into it
