Do any parents accidentally mix up their baby's name and pet's name

I feel a bit guilty about this but I keep wanting to call my 7-week-old daughter by our lady dog’s name. I catch myself just in time and say the correct name, but I know that wasn’t the first one that popped into my head. And if that wasn’t enough, I almost called my dog by our daughter’s name.

Is anyone else experiencing this

No, but I have called my son ‘good girl’ before. Super awkward but the dog loved it

That’s a funny story, I really love it

Yup. I was talking to my neighbor and said I had to take my son to the vet. I had to explain that I was a dog mom for a long time

Oh we are terrible with this, we call the bassinet the crate, my husband says ‘what a good girl’ when the baby follows a command, and I found myself saying ‘good quiet’ when the baby stopped crying. We have been co-dog parents for 11 years, so it just comes out naturally

Happens all the time. My son is Georgie and my old dog became Jon

No, but I keep catching myself calling the pediatrician the ‘vet’

That’s so relatable

Every day. Not just names but pronouns too. It’s a fun time

I just call them both ‘my baby’ to avoid all this

We’ve all been there

I stayed with my parents who have a dog over Christmas and you would not believe how many times I called my son by the dog’s name and vice versa. I was really shocked that I did that when it wasn’t even my dog

Responding as someone who was a child

My mom called me by my siblings’ names all the time. She’d correct herself, but sometimes she’d call out a different sibling’s name instead. One time, I decided to beat her to it and tell her my name myself.

‘Mom, I’m Dingo!’

Imagine my surprise when I told her this story 20 years later and found out this was not the only time I called myself by the dog’s name

My kid thinks they are a pet now. Both on the floor, looking up at me, chasing toys, begging for food and both answering to the pet’s name. I’ve started to lean into it

I knew I was part of my now-husband’s family when his mom accidentally called me the dog’s name

I’ve called my kid both our cats’ names but never the other way around

I keep calling my daughter by my dog’s name

I do this constantly and I think it will get worse over time

Definitely, that’s actually how we got our kid’s nickname

I’ve caught myself calling my female cats good boy because that’s what I say to my son sometimes

Sometimes I call my oldest kid by little sister’s name. It’s like there’s a mom brain thing that happens I never experienced before having them
