I’m on the hunt for some great toys for a newborn and would love your recommendations. What toys have you found to be engaging and safe for little ones? Looking for ideas that will stimulate and entertain without being overwhelming.
Hey parents,
a newborn’s favorite toy is frequently your tender attention. Sing to your child, hold them close, and converse with them. Their development greatly benefits from these connections.
I still utilize the toys she adored as a child, including teethers. A simple rattle/sound-making toy.
Board books.
Soft silicone blocks.
Stacking cups.
big wood activity cube (she has liked this since 6 months; it was our Christmas gift to her last year).
The best toy I bought my baby was this ball thing that had silicone strings you could pull. He’s 14 months and it’s still our go to toy for the car or public outings. It’s kept him entertained for a long time. If you search Amazon for “Montessori Pull String Toys” a bunch come up and nearly all are under $15. I don’t know why it’s so appealing but it’s been a huge hit.
Babies don’t require a lot of toys or items. Particularly throughout the first few months of life. What they require are experiences. To provide those experiences, I recommend purchasing a boppy pillow, a play mat jungle gym or similar mobile-style equipment, a baby carrier that faces inside towards you (facing outward can damage their hips), and age-appropriate books.
